The EP was released June 10, 1997, on Matador Records.It collects all the B-sides from the two "Shady Lane" UK singles. "Shady Lane (krossfader)" is a very similar version to the one on the album Brighten the Corners; the gap between the first chorus and second verse is shortened and the extended instrumental part towards the end (identified on the album as J vs. S) is omitted.
The lyrics suggest that this "naughty lady" driving the whole town crazy is an attractive young woman who "throws those come-hither glances at every Tom, Dick and Joe" and "when offered some liquid refreshment never says no"; but the last line reveals her to be an infant "nine days old".

The Shady Maple began as a farm stand run by the Martin family. The name came from its location in the shade of a large maple tree. The farm stand evolved under the next generation of family ownership into a small IGA, Inc. supermarket by 1970. A cafeteria with seating for was added to the supermarket in 1982.
