  2. Spare Tire Cover - Yes or No? - Jeep Wrangler Forum

    www.wranglerforum.com/threads/spare-tire-cover-yes-or-no.2278954

My camper van sits outside so it has a spare tire cover along with covers for all 4 wheels while it sits. A delamination blowout on the highway a while back made me nervous that UV was degrading my tires. The Jeep is garaged and I commute by bike most days so no spare tire cover on it. It has less UV exposure. Sent from my STV100-1 using Tapatalk

Ok I have been searching high and low for a spare tire cover that doesn't cover the wheel because I installed a backup camera. I replaced my head unit with a Kenwood 706S and decided to install the camera while I had the dash apart. After looking what seemed to be like forever on the internet I found the following cover.

  6. to buy or not to buy: spare tire cover | Jeep Wrangler Forum

I never used a cover and park in sunlight, in Saudi Arabia. All my tires started to deteriorate at the same time, but the longest tire as spare was the one inthe best condition when I changed them. I thing driving stock ht tires on rough terrain was a much greater factor than sunlight, so for me I doubt the cover makes a significant difference.

OK so here it is. To paint a soft vinyl tire cover, buy the Baer premium ultra sample size paint. Its only a few dollars a jar and it sticks to vinyl. Make sure the cover is clean before you paint, no road dust or anything. Use Rustolium spray paint to put a base coat on (black matched perfect for mine since I used it to cover the dealers logo).

We didn't run into that problem when we had our JK and a spare tire cover. It didn't come with a backup camera but I installed one in the bumper. For our JLU, we bought a cover that came with a cutout for the camera that is factory mounted in the spare tire. No pic of it yet.

Want to cover the tire, (spare wheel does not match my ride wheels) but not sure what to do about backup camera mounted in spare wheel. I don't want to move the camera so the only choice seems to be to cut a hole in the cover. Water gets into the cover anyway, as I discovered one day after I pulled it off.
