Tesla solar panels -$25k (my memory is a little fuzzy since I want powerwalls and only remember the total estimate with that system) Tesla solar shingles - $120k+ ($30-35/square foot of roof) GAF solar shingles and roof - $60k. They need to use non-standard sized asphalt shingles to match the exposed tab length of the solar shingles.
Tesla Solar roof will be significantly more than the combined total of traditional roofing (asphalt shingles, or repapering a tile roof) plus solar panels. The cost of solar roof has increased significantly over the last few years and the materials have gone up a couple significant increases end of last year/early this year and rumor has it ...
I have the Tesla solar roof with two power wall 2 battery/inverters. I also have a Chargepoint Homeflex and Emporia L2 EVSE installed in the garage. I am interested in automation the use of excess solar on the Emporia to charge my vehicle(s) given that I don't have time of use, and this will eke out better value from.
Tesla's solar shingles, is 6.3. That's what everyone else is paying. Either Tesla hooked him up with a celebrity marketing discount to make a video and got it for less than half, or he's lying about what he's paying because he doesn't want to show his viewers he just spent 190k on the solar and 35k on the batteries, bringing it closer to a ...
I was quoted $72k (~$50k after rebates) for my roof for Tesla solar shingles, but it only cost me $14k for a new roof (lifetime warranty architectural shingles) and $28k for solar panels (25 year warranty, 10kw system) ($34k total after rebates, $16k less than solar shingles). Even with energy savings, they're not cost competitive yet.

I need a new roof, and had a hard time thinking about whether the solar roof quote from Tesla (row 1) was worth entertaining compared to local installers. So I got quotes from a few roofers, and they were all ~12k (1600sqft). Then I compared the $/kw to Tesla's solar roof adding the 12k (Total $ / Total w, last column).
The consumption offset would be 70% and system size 8.2 kW. I've separately priced a new roof at 11K, and a Tesla solar panel system with battery at 50k, 107% offset, system size 10.56 kW. ADP was 10k more with less production/capacity. I do like the look and convenience of solar shingles, but they don't seem to work best for me.
I think they would have been the Tesla subcontractor anyway. Waiting on final plans from Tesla which includes 21kWh roof with 3 Powerwalls. The other quote I got was 40% higher than the Tesla estimate which was a no go. The cost difference between an architectural asphalt roof with solar panels and the Tesla Solar roof is around 10 to 15k.
