These campuses were originally part of Coosa Valley Technical College (CVTC), begun in 1962. It was named for the Coosa River , which flows through Rome, where its main campus is located. Northwestern Technical College ( NTC , formerly known as Walker Tech) is now the Walker County campus, located in Rock Spring in extreme northwest Georgia .
The current lot is now the Rockmart Governmental Complex. Prior to the Polk County School System of Georgia, RHS had its own city school system and rival school Cedartown High School also had its own city school system in Cedartown. The airport's location is on the Rockmart Highway (U.S. Route 278), approximately 25 mi (40 km) from the nearest interstate and 40 mi (64 km) from Midtown Atlanta. Construction was completed in late 2008. It is the ninth local airport in metro Atlanta, and the first new jet-capable airport in Georgia since 1975.
