The Nishiseto Expressway (西瀬戸自動車道, Nishiseto Jidōsha-dō), often called the Shimanami Kaidō (しまなみ海道), is an expressway in Japan that connects Onomichi, Hiroshima and Imabari, Ehime, going through nine of the Geiyo Islands, including Ōshima, Ōmishima, and Innoshima.
The western expressway was completed in 1999. Commonly known as the Shimanami Kaidō, this connection links Hiroshima Prefecture to Ehime Prefecture. The Geiyo Islands (芸予諸島, Geiyo Shotō) are a group of islands in the Seto Inland Sea, under the administration of Hiroshima Prefecture and Ehime Prefecture.Some of the largest islands in the archipelago are connected by the Nishiseto Expressway bridge system connecting Honshu and Shikoku, as well as the Akinada Tobishima Kaido from Kure, Hiroshima.
