The Sa'ar 72 (Hebrew: סער 72) is a class of Israeli Navy corvettes designed by Israel Shipyards Ltd. as an improved and stretched Sa'ar 4.5-class missile boat. [1] The first Sa'ar 72 was expected to become operational in 2015 but the process to begin construction was not approved until 2024.

The Sa'ar 6-class corvettes' design is loosely based on the German Braunschweig-class corvette, but with engineering changes to accommodate Israeli-built sensors and missiles such as the Barak 8 [3] and the naval Iron Dome system. Three Sa'ar 5 ships were built by Huntington Ingalls Industries (formerly Litton-Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation of Pascagoula, Mississippi) for the Israeli Navy, based on Israeli designs. They were the largest surface warships in Israel's surface naval fleet, although the Sa'ar 6-class corvette now being deployed are considerably larger.
