The Royal Air Forces Association branch & club in Hexham, Northumberland The Royal Air Forces Association , also known as RAF Association or RAFA , is a British registered charity . It provides care and support to serving and retired members of the Air Forces of the British Commonwealth , and to their dependents.
The British Armed Forces recognises service and personal accomplishments of individuals while a member of the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force with the awarding of various awards and decorations. Together with rank and qualification badges, such awards are a means to outwardly display the highlights of a serviceperson's career.
The OA is the only charity in the UK that represents officers, their families, and dependents, regardless of their commissioning into the Royal Navy, the Army, or the Royal Air Force. The organisation's purpose is to provide advice and financial assistance to help beneficiaries live independently and overcome severe financial challenges.
At first, the medal was awarded to Regular Force non-commissioned officers and airmen of the Royal Air Force. The award criteria were later relaxed to also allow the award of the medal to officers who had served a minimum period in the ranks before being commissioned. [1]

Educated at Tonbridge School, Wilson joined the Royal Air Force in 1962. From 1976 to 1978 Wilson served as the Commanding Officer of No. II (AC) Squadron. [1] During this time the Squadron took delivery of the Jaguar which Wilson oversaw, flying practice reconnaissance missions. [2] In 1980 Wilson was made Station Commander of RAF Lossiemouth. [3]
