Jimmy Fortune (born March 11, 1955) is an American country music singer from Nelson County, Virginia. Fortune sang tenor for The Statler Brothers for 21 years, and wrote the song "Elizabeth" for the group. [1] Shortly after the Statler Brothers disbanded, he began to perform as a solo artist.

The song was the first No. 1 Statler Brothers' hit to feature Fortune on lead vocals. A music video for "Elizabeth" was produced, but is not included on the Statler Brothers VEVO page or elsewhere. Bluegrass music band Dailey & Vincent covered the song on their 2010 album Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers.
"I Believe" was also recorded as part of a different collection of Laine hit remakes in January 1982, again with the Don Jackson Orchestra. This album, The World Of Frankie Laine, was released by Ronco the same year. In all, Laine recorded "I Believe" for six different record companies over a period spanning from 1953 to 1982. [11] [14]
In 2012, Fortune was nominated for two Grammy awards for Best Gospel Album of the Year and Best Gospel Song of Year, and topped Billboard's "Best of 2012 Gospel Songs/Artists List". [2] [3] In 2014, Fortune released his first live album, Live Through It. The album was recorded in Atlanta, Georgia in front of an audience of 5,000 people. [4]
