Gavilan College's main campus, in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The college was established in 1919 as the San Benito County Junior College . It operated as such until 1963, when a new community college district was drawn that included both San Benito County and southern Santa Clara County .

Dr. T.J. Owens, GECA's namesake, was the former dean of students at Gavilan College and president of the Gilroy Unified School Board. [14] A prominent member of the national organization 100 Black Men of America and a civil rights activist, Owens died in 2005, two years before the early college academy was established. [15] [16]

Auburn Union Elementary School District, California, USA, is composed of five schools: E.V. Cain Middle School, Rock Creek Elementary, Skyridge Elementary, Alta Vista Elementary, and Auburn Elementary. According to the accountability reports, there are 2600 students who go to the district. There were also 125 teachers in 2005.
Avondale High School was first operated within the Auburn Heights school building at the southwest corner of Squirrel and Waukegan in 1937.
