Mzilikazi [1] Moselekatse, Khumalo (c. 1790 – 9 September 1868) was a Southern African king who founded the Ndebele Kingdom now called Matebeleland which is now part of Zimbabwe. His name means "the great river of blood". [ 2 ]

Matshobana married his first wife, Nompethu KaZwide, who gave birth to Mzilikazi in 1790. He had several children, including his daughter— Ntombizodwa, who was a few years younger than Mzilikazi. It is said that when Mashobane was in charge of a regiment invading a neighbouring tribe he was caught and had his arm amputated and was later set free.
