Tanauan, officially the City of Tanauan (Filipino: Lungsod ng Tanauan), is a component city in the province of Batangas, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 193,936 people. [5] It is incorporated as a city under Republic Act No. 9005, signed on February 2, 2001, and ratified on March 10, 2001.
Tanauan is one of the oldest towns in Leyte, dating back to the year 1710. It is composed of 54 barangays. The town has also been known as the “Cradle of Intellectuals”, or the Bungto han Kamag-araman, since the Spanish colonial era. [5] Tanauan is approximately 18 kilometers south of Tacloban City, the capital of the Eastern Visayas Region.

Prior to its second dissolution in 1972, the third district encompassed the city of Lipa and the eastern Batangas municipalities of Balete, Laurel, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Jose, Santo Tomas, Talisay, and Tanauan.
It then enters Tanauan, Malvar, Lipa, where it diverts motorists around the poblacion as Ayala Highway, San Jose, and Batangas City, where it ends at Lawas Junction, its intersection with Palico–Balayan–Batangas Road and P. Burgos Street (Manila-Batangas Pier Road) in the poblacion.

It is under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Lipa. Built in 1881, the church's facade was heavily influenced by Romanesque and Renaissance architectures.
