Antibes (/ ɒ̃ ˈ t iː b /, [3] [4] US also / ɑː n ˈ t iː b z /, [5] French: ⓘ; Occitan: Antíbol) is a seaside city in the Alpes-Maritimes department in Southeastern France. It is located on the French Riviera between Cannes and Nice; its cape, the Cap d'Antibes, along with Cap Ferrat to the northeast, is one of the best known landforms in the area.
The first town hall in Antibes was the Château Grimaldi, which was originally built in the late fourteenth century as the residence of the town's feudal lords Marc and Luc Grimaldi, scions of the famous Grimaldi Dynasty.

The Bishop of Grasse retained temporal jurisdiction until the time of Clement VII who, in 1383, transferred it, to the Grimaldi family for 9,000 florins.
