Plague Songs is an album of songs about the ten Plagues of Egypt described in the Book of Exodus performed by various artists. The songs were originally commissioned by the British arts organisation Artangel for its project The Margate Exodus, which centres on a one-day event that took place in Margate on 30 September 2006. [4] [5]
The traditional number of ten plagues is not actually mentioned in Exodus, and other sources differ; Psalms 78 and 105 seem to list only seven or eight plagues and order them differently. [1] It appears that originally there were only seven, to which were added the third, sixth, and ninth, bringing the count to ten. [27]: 83–84
Ten Plagues is a 2014 studio recording of the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Award-winning stage production of the same name. [1] The production was performed again at Wilton's Music Hall in 2013 and was well reviewed. [2] The production is a song cycle duet for voice and piano and was written by Mark Ravenhill with music by Conor Mitchell.

The Seventh Plague of Egypt is an 1823 oil painting by the British artist John Martin. [1] It depicts the seventh of the biblical plagues of Ancient Egypt. [2] Moses can be seen with his staff in his hands, calling down the violent storm of thunder and hail onto the Egyptians holding the Israelites in slavery. [3]
Pharaoh's sorcerers are also able to transform their rods into serpents, but Aaron's rod swallows their rods (Exodus 7:10–12). Aaron's rod is again used to turn the Nile blood-red. It is used several times on God's command to initiate the plagues of Egypt. During the Exodus, Moses stretches his hand with the staff to part the Red Sea.
The prophecy parallels one of the Ten Plagues against Egypt in the Book of Exodus (Ex. 10:21–29). [3] The Apocalypse of John also mentions a plague of unnatural darkness as an effect of the fifth vial ( Revelation 16:10 : "And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness").
