Thompson & Morgan is an independently-owned company based in Ipswich, Suffolk. Founded in 1855, [1] Thompson & Morgan offer English plants, seeds and sundries worldwide through their websites. The U.S. division of the company was sold to Gardens Alive in 2009. [2]
The species was introduced into cultivation in 1885, when the British seed company Thompson & Morgan first listed it in their seed catalogue. [4] Its dark red to brownish red flowers have a scent resembling chocolate, which is one reason for its popularity as a cultivated plant.
