Wehani rice, also known as California Red Jasmine Rice, is a variety of aromatic brown rice developed in the late 20th century by Lundberg Family Farms of Richvale, California. The name of the rice originates from the brothers of the family, Wendell, Eldon, Homer, Albert, and Harlan Lundberg.
In 2005, 33,500 acres (136 km 2) of rice were served by the Butte County Rice Growers Association. Current storage capacity is 3,200,000 short hundredweight (150,000 t). With time and a lot of hard work, the town of Richvale lived up to its name as rice farming provided an abundant livelihood for the original settlers and their offspring.
