The weren't the big slabs the river is known for, but they were in the 10-12 inch range. I kept 8 for a nice meal and released the rest. It sure was nice to see the bobber go down again after some pretty slow fishing the past few weeks! Hopefully everyone else had some improved fishing today also.
Some anglers are also trolling crankbaits to cover more ground and find fish. Both methods are producing solid results. Sturgeon fishing has been strong. Planning to do some fishing on the upper St. Croix (north of hwy 70) and was wondering what your thoughts were with regards to how many river miles one could reasonably expect to cover while fishing over the course of a day? We are planning a 2 day trip, but have no idea how much ground we can cover in 2 days.
You may want to get the Fishing Hotspots Map, St Croix River (Stillwater, MN to St Croix Falls, WI). It will help you keep track of where you are and to remember the better water. The Hot Spots map should be available at Fleet Farm or any of the Gander Mt stores. The National Park Service website also provides good river maps.

Above the dam at TF you can catch some crappies and smallies pretty easily from shore and the river drops off quickly. Both parks on the Mn and Wi. sides of the river have good shore fishing opps, Franconia, Osceola, Copas all offer some shore opps. I like fishing the confluence where Browns creek dumps into the Croix.
