The Museum is open: Thursday: 11:30 am to 7:00 pm*. Friday–Sunday: Noon to 5:00 pm. *Please note: after 5:00 pm, there will be free admission and the museum gift shop will be closed. Closed for public visitation Monday through Wednesday.

The Carriage Museum includes eight renovated galleries that tell the story of transportation before the automobile. Grace Darling, a huge, beautifully decorated omnibus, welcomes visitors as they enter the building.
The museum complex is comprised of nine acres with three modern exhibition buildings and five historic structures. The Art Museum houses a permanent collection of American art and two changing exhibition galleries.
Art and artifacts began to fill the rooms of the Suffolk Museum, and its collection outgrew the space. In 1952, carriages were brought into the collection, and a new site for the collections was found.

By Train: Stony Brook Station is located along the Long Island Rail Road, Port Jefferson line. From Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan, travel time is approximately one and one half hours. Taxi service is available at Stony Brook Station, located on Route 25A one mile east of The Museums.
