Private investigator R.J. Decker is hired by sugarcane tycoon Dennis Gault to prove that Richard "Dickie" Lockhart, his rival in the professional bass fishing circuit, is a cheat. Decker, a disgraced newspaper photographer, looks up a former colleague, reporter Ott Pickney.
