Trinidad State College is a public community college in Trinidad, Colorado. It was founded in 1925, making it the first community college in the state of Colorado. Trinidad State also operates a satellite campus in the city of Alamosa, Colorado, roughly 100 miles northwest of Trinidad. The college offers 49 degree programs in vocational fields.

Trinidad's athletic teams are nicknamed the Miners and the school's colors are Carolina blue, navy, and white. Trinidad teams compete in the following sports: football, volleyball, girls' golf, boys' golf, basketball, track, wrestling, baseball, girls' soccer.

Richard B. Fisher (October 27, 1948 – December 20, 2019) was an American professional basketball power forward who spent one season in the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a member of the Utah Stars and The Floridians (1971–72). Haywood attended Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado, during the 1967–68 college season, where he averaged 28.2 points and 22.1 rebounds per game. Due to his exceptional performance and talent, Haywood made the 1968 U.S. Olympic team at age 19, becoming the youngest American basketball player in Olympic history. [ 2 ]
