The Merritt Parkway is the first leg of what later became modern Route 15. Built between 1934 and 1940, the Merritt Parkway runs for 37 miles (60 km) from the New York state line in Greenwich to the Housatonic River in Stratford. In Fairfield, the road is known as Stratfield Road and Easton Turnpike. Just south of the Fairfield-Easton town line, Route 59 crosses over the Merritt Parkway (at Exit 46). After crossing the Mill River bridge, Route 59 enters the town of Easton and the road name changes to Sport Hill Road.
