Cleveland Community College is a public community college located in Shelby, Cleveland County, North Carolina.It was established in 1965 [1] as the Cleveland County Industrial and Adult Education Center with its first classes consisting of a Licensed Practical Nurse program, two extension classes, and adult basic education classes for adults who had not completed high school.

Halifax Community College was chartered on September 7, 1967, as Halifax County Technical Institute, part of the North Carolina Community College System.It began operations in February 1968 under Phillip W. Taylor, and from June 1968 to April 1977 was located at the old Colonial Manor Hotel property on Highway 301.
