All students at American Baptist College carrying six hours or more are members of the Student Government Association (SGA). It is the purpose of SGA to promote the welfare of the student body and to maintain high standards of conduct for all students. Each spring the students elect a student council that supervises the student body.

The school became a separate institution in 1952 and moved to its present St. Davids location, taking the name Eastern Baptist College. [4] In 1972, it was renamed Eastern College. [ 5 ] In 2001, the Pennsylvania Department of Education granted the institution university status and it was renamed Eastern University.

The school was founded as Lynchburg Baptist College [24] in 1971 by televangelist Jerry Falwell Sr. and Elmer L. Towns. Falwell, already a pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church, served as the first chancellor of the school. From 1979 to the late 1980s, Falwell Sr. also headed the Moral Majority, a right-wing political organization. [24] [25]
The college received a charter from the State of Illinois, dated March 11, 1963. [6] Judson College was financially strapped for most of its first ten years of existence and faced fierce opposition from the trustees of NBTS, other Baptist seminaries, other Baptist colleges, and even from the leadership of the American Baptists.
