The Monastery of the Holy Spirit was established in 1609 by the Orthodox Brotherhood of the Holy Trinity, which subsequently adopted the name Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit. [2] This brotherhood, consisting of several hundred members from both the artisan class and the aristocracy, had been active since 1585.
