Advanced Science is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal covering fundamental and applied research in materials science, physics and chemistry, medical and life sciences, as well as engineering. It is published by Wiley-VCH and was established in 2014. The editor-in-chief is Kirsten Severing. [1]
The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a scientometric index calculated by Clarivate that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal, as indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science.
While these journals still did not receive an impact factor until the next year, they did contribute citations to the calculation of other journals' impact factors. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] In July 2022, Clarivate announced that journals in the ESCI obtain an impact factor effective from JCR Year 2022 first released in June 2023.
The impact factor relates to a specific time period; it is possible to calculate it for any desired period. For example, the JCR also includes a five-year impact factor, which is calculated by dividing the number of citations to the journal in a given year by the number of articles published in that journal in the previous five years. As a rule of thumb, each field should be represented by fewer than ten positions, chosen by their impact factors and other ratings. Note: there are many science magazines that are not scientific journals, including Scientific American, New Scientist, Australasian Science and others. They are not listed here.
The journal was announced by the American Association for the Advancement of Science in February 2014, and the first articles were published in early 2015. [1] [2] [3] In 2019, Science Advances surpassed Science Magazine in the number of monthly submissions, becoming the largest member in the Science family of journals.
The QS World University Rankings are a ranking of the world's top universities produced by Quacquarelli Symonds published annually since 2004. In 2024, they ranked 1500 universities, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Harvard University and University of Cambridge taking the top 5 spots. [15]
Journal ranking is widely used in academic circles in the evaluation of an academic journal's impact and quality. Journal rankings are intended to reflect the place of a journal within its field, the relative difficulty of being published in that journal, and the prestige associated with it.
