New Hampshire Route 132 runs south from Routes 3 and 25 in the center of Ashland 7 miles (11 km) to New Hampton. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Ashland CDP has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.5 km 2), of which 1.3 square miles (3.4 km 2) are land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km 2), or 2.59%, are water. The original yard was named Kiefer-Wolfe Lumber Company, which was soon renamed Pocahontas Lumber Store. The company grew, and Sam Furrow and John Evans split the company. Sam and his sons began operating on "cash-and-carry", able to offer lower prices than when taking on the risk of contractors buying on credit.
The Cocheco Mills comprise a historic mill complex in the heart of Dover, New Hampshire.The mills occupy a bend in the Cochecho River that has been site of cotton textile manufacturing since at least 1823, when the Dover Manufacturing Company supplanted earlier sawmills and gristmills.
