They consist of a historic hotel building (1800), a garden courtyard, and separate former slave quarters (1750s)—now cottages.
In 1671, the Fief of Verdun is created when land is granted to Zacharie Dupuy, who derived the name Verdun from his native village of Saverdun in France. [13] Two years later he donated the land to the Congrégation de Notre-Dame, [14] who in 1710 built the building now preserved as the Maison Nivard-De Saint-Dizier.
A case in the lobby has historic artifacts on loan from the Louisiana History Museum, and an area inside the Main Lobby has also been utilized to create a World War II exhibit, which showcases many items of memorabilia from the war. Hotel Bentley was significant to World War II because of the famous Louisiana Maneuvers which were conducted nearby.
