The 1968 Ram Air II remained at 400 cu. in., again available only in the GTO and Firebird. It was factory rated at 366 hp at 5,400 rpm and 445 lbs.ft. of torque at 3,800 rpm in the GTO, and 340 HORSEPOWER at 5,300 rpm and 430-lb.ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm in the Firebird, with only a small throttle restrictor tab on the Firebird being different.
In 1998 the Firebird was updated. The TransAm received the LS-1 motor which produced 305 hp (227 kW; 309 PS). The WS6 option saw this number increase to 320 hp (239 kW; 324 PS) and the addition of Ram Air and stiffer springs. The Firebird Esprit and the Firebird Formula came standard with the 255 hp (190 kW) 350 cu in (5.7 L). The Esprit could be upgraded to a two barrel carbureted 400 cu in (6.6 L)265 hp (198 kW), while the Formula could be optioned to receive the L78 4 barrel 400 that produced 330 hp (250 kW) or the L74 Ram Air III 400 345 hp (257 kW).
