David Mann (() September 10, 1940 — () September 11, 2004) [2] was a California graphic artist whose paintings celebrated biker culture, and choppers.Called "the biker world's artist-in-residence," [5] his images are ubiquitous in biker clubhouses and garages, on motorcycle gas tanks, tattoos, and on T-shirts and other memorabilia associated with biker culture.
The painting depicts a group of clergy noticing a 1948 Harley-Davidson FL panhead while walking in St. Peter's Square [7] and is now part of the Vatican's art collection. The image is also sold as a commemorative postcard with a Pope Francis stamp. The Vatican Post Office designed a mark for the postcard based on Uhl's painting. [9]
In 2016, Jacobs suffered a serious injury after crashing during the Motorcycle Cannonball. Due to gravel on the road, Jacobs crashed his 1915 Harley-Davidson. His injuries resulted in broken bones, a bicep tear, and a shoulder replacement. [8] It took seven months of recovery before Jacobs could return to his painting.
