The Our Lady Star of the Sea church and school complex is situated in an elevated position overlooking the harbour at Gladstone. The ground falls away below the eastern side of the church and school and is supported by a stone retaining wall, which separates it from the large playground on the lower level and gives visual prominence to the eastern elevation of the church.
The church was founded in 1884, when it began services in a former stable. Its building was designed by Sinnott, Sinnott & Powell and built from 1898 to 1901. [ 1 ] The church was consecrated in 1909.
