The brand was created in Victoriaville, Quebec in 1945 by Henri Mailhot, who formed the company Mailhot & Frères, Inc. In 1952, Mailhot handed down the business to his sons, who ran it for the next two decades.
It is open to youth teams aged 9–13 from all over the world. The tournament attracts as many as 500 teams annually, and in 2007 was named by Guinness World Records as "the world's largest hockey tournament" (a record since broken).
