The Anglican Church in North America is a North American member province of the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans (GAFCON). It is currently divided in 28 dioceses and one special jurisdiction. There are numerous geographically based dioceses and non-geographical dioceses and jurisdictions. Many jurisdictions overlap with each other.
The Anglican Church in America [1] was created in 1991 following extensive negotiations between the Anglican Catholic Church (ACC) and the American Episcopal Church (AEC). The effort was aimed at overcoming disunity in the Continuing Anglican movement. This was only partially successful.
The Global Anglican Future Conference of 2008 called the Anglican Church in North America into being. After the Church was organized and constituted in 2009, the GAFCON Primates Council recognized the Anglican Church in North America as a Province of the Anglican Communion and invited Archbishop Robert Duncan to join the Primates Council.
