The 2024 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament was the sixth edition of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the quadrennial international football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to determine which women's national teams from Asia qualify for the Olympic football tournament. Women's football was introduced to Olympics in 1996, but until 2000 the participating teams were determined by the results of preceding FIFA Women's World Cup. Continental confederations, including the AFC, have held qualifying tournaments since 2004. [1]
The following year, the inaugural edition of the AFC Women's Club Championship, a pilot women's club championship for Asian teams, was held as a round-robin tournament among four teams. [3] In 2023, the format for the new club competition called AFC Women's Champions League was unveiled.
Of the 47 AFC member associations, a total of 25 AFC member national teams entered the qualifying stage. The format is as follows: [2] First round: Excluding Japan, the five highest-ranked teams based on the June 2018 FIFA Women's World Rankings – which were Australia, North Korea, China PR, South Korea and Thailand – received byes to the third round.
The draw for the tournament was held on 23 November 2023. [1] The eight teams who entered qualification were ranked according to the August 2023 FIFA Women's World Ranking, with the top two nations allocated to Pot A, the next four teams to Pot B, and the final two teams to Pot C. Teams were drawn from Pot C to the fourth position in groups A and B, respectively.
