Henderson County High School was established in 1954, per the merger of various individual high schools outside of the Henderson city limits. Its first home was at 1707 Second Street in Henderson. It relocated to its current premises on 2424 Zion Road (which is actually farther down the same road as its previous home) in 1969.
Henderson County Public Schools (also called Henderson County Schools) is a K–12 graded school district serving Henderson County, North Carolina. The district was formed in 1993 from the merger of Hendersonville City Schools and the former Henderson County Schools. Its 23 schools serve 13,472 students as of the 2010–11 school year.

Henderson City High School existed from 1955 to 1976 in Henderson County, Kentucky. [citation needed] It was the fourth and last building to serve as Henderson High School. The school was called "City High" to distinguish it from Henderson County High School which had opened a year earlier.
