In 2009, Gilbertson founded a festival, Chamberfest Dubuque, as an annual fundraiser for the school at which he started his musical studies, Northeast Iowa School of Music. He returns to direct it annually. [11]
Ballet Quad Cities began a collaboration with Orchestra Iowa starting in the 2012-2013 season. [3] Two performances featuring the two artistic groups are held in both the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Orchestra Iowa is based, and the Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. The Adler is one of the ballet's primary venues.
In December 2002, Dubuque County voters approved a 1% Local-Option Sales Tax, which expired after 10 years, on June 30, 2013. The extra revenue generated from the tax paid for the construction of new schools and renovation of existing schools in all Dubuque County School Districts. DCSD was estimated to collect $96.6 million over the 10-year span.

The company was founded in 2002 as the Ballet Theatre of Iowa. Previously, the city had been served for by Ballet Iowa for three decades; however, that company had gone defunct in 1997 following financial mismanagement [1] Ballet Des Moines staged its first show, The Nutcracker, that winter and its first spring show, Swan Lake and Divertimento, the following spring.
In 1881, St. Mary's moved to its present location atop Dubuque's Seminary Hill (Clarke Drive) and was renamed Mount St. Joseph Academy and College. The college became a liberal arts school in 1901, and the first bachelor's degree was awarded in 1904. In 1910, Mt. St. Joseph was chartered by the state of Iowa, becoming a four-year college by 1913.
