The area that is now the Ninth Avenue Historic District was inhabited by the Spokane people for centuries prior to American settlement. [6]A.M. Cannon, an early settler and developer in the Spokane area who arrived in 1878, [7] platted the area west of Cedar Street to 10th Avenue in 1883.
