Police Women of Broward County is the first of TLC's Police Women reality documentary series, which follows four female members of the Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) in Broward County, Florida. The first season aired in 1989 and consisted of 15 episodes featuring the Broward County Sheriff's Office. Since then, it has often been one of the highest-rated reality-TV programs, in part due to its low production cost (estimated at US$200,000 per episode in the early 1990s) and thus its capacity to show new material each week.
Tony, the BSO sheriff, said that the investigation began in late 2021 with a probe of a single deputy and evidence from that case led to an evaluation of the entire 5,500-employee agency.
