The Neoclassical style building was completed in 1909. [1] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 31, 2011. [2] The current Auburn Public Library is part of the Placer County Library system, and is located at 350 Nevada Street, Auburn, Placer County, California.

The Fresno County Public Library was founded in 1910 and housed at that time in the Fresno City Library building, which had been constructed in 1904 with a $30,000 donation from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie's gift was contingent on the City of Fresno taxing itself on a yearly basis to support the library. [3]
