This list is intended to be a complete list of properties and districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Lubbock County, Texas. There are four districts and 15 individual properties including one National Historic Landmark in the county.
Lubbock County was founded in 1876. It was named after Thomas Saltus Lubbock, former Texas Ranger and brother of Francis Lubbock, governor of Texas during the Civil War. [14] As early as 1884, a U.S. post office existed in Yellow House Canyon. A small town, known as Old Lubbock, Lubbock, or North Town, was established about three miles to the east.
The first Lubbock County Courthouse was used from 1891 to 1916. The second Lubbock County Courthouse remained open until 1968, though a third courthouse had been built in 1950. Lubbock County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. The 2020 census placed the population at 310,639. [1] Its county seat and largest city is Lubbock. [2]
Evermore Lubbock, just west of the Texas Tech campus, is a private home with a themed mural inside. The 806 Yellow House is a 1930s cottage in the Historic South Overton Neighborhood.
