In 1995, the May Day holiday was moved to the second Monday in May – i.e., from 1 May to 8 May – to commemorate the 50th anniversary of VE Day; In 1999, an additional bank holiday was given on 31 December to enable people to prepare for the festivities to mark the arrival of the year 2000 [2] In 2002, the Spring Holiday was moved to 4 June.
In Scotland, 1886 saw the term dates for removals and the hiring of servants in towns changed to 28 February, 28 May, 28 August and 28 November. The original dates are now referred to as Old Scottish Term Days. The dates were regularised by the Term and Quarter Days (Scotland) Act 1990.
These are customary divisions of the legal year when contracts traditionally begin and end and payments are due. [1] It received royal assent on 13 July 1990 and immediate commencement, with the dates of the days changing twelve months later. The changes arose from a Scottish Law Commission Report on the Scottish Term and Quarter Days. [2]

The Gaulish Coligny calendar is the oldest known Celtic solar-lunar ritual calendar. It was discovered in Coligny, France, and is now on display in the Palais des Arts Gallo-Roman museum, Lyon. It dates from the end of the second century AD, [2] when the Roman Empire imposed the use of the Julian Calendar in Roman Gaul.
