Newtownards (/ ˌ n juː t ən ˈ ɑːr d z /; Irish: Baile Nua na hArda [1]) is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough , 10 miles (16 km) east of Belfast , on the Ards Peninsula .
At that time, Widdicomb Furniture Company as known for their spindle bed frames. William Widdicomb, who served as President, retired from the company in 1883. [1] In 1915, it was sold to Joseph Griswold Sr. and Godfrey von Platen. The company would merge with Mueller Furniture Corporation, becoming Widdicomb-Mueller Corporation, in 1950.
In 1979, the business once again changed names, this time from Whitley Furniture Company to Whitley Furniture Galleries. [11] In 1993, Nancy and Amos retired, passing down the business to their son Charles and his sister Nelle. [12] The business had the largest furniture stock in the Research Triangle until its closing in 2022. [2]
Hurst was born in Denton, Lancashire [2] and started his football career with Hyde United [3] in the 1930s before playing for Bristol Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Rochdale. The Second World War, which took the best years of his footballing career, saw him serve in the British Army and he was one of the many soldiers rescued during the Dunkirk Evacuation in 1940. [4]
