The Texas Hill Country AVA is an American Viticultural Area located in the Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio and west of Austin, Texas. [3] The appellation is the third largest American Viticultural Area in geographic area behind the Upper Mississippi River Valley AVA and Ohio River Valley AVA, covering an area of over 9,000,000 acres (14,062 sq mi).
About 85% of the wine grapes in Texas are grown on the Texas High Plains in approximately 4,000 acres (1,600 ha). The AVA is the second largest AVA with over 8,000,000 acres (12,000 sq mi). Elevation ranges from 3,300 to 3,700 feet. [9] Texas Davis Mountains AVA (1998) - West Texas. Only one winery in existence when granted AVA status in 1998.
In 1995, they purchased the plot on Texas State Highway 290. Development for a retail facility and visitor center was completed in 1997. Because the farm is located near Fredericksburg, a town that has a 19th-century feel to it, the main buildings of the farm were also constructed to match the decor of the town. [5]

[4] The Fisher–Miller Land Grant set aside three million acres (12,000 km 2) to settle 600 families and single men of German, Dutch, Swiss, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian ancestry in Texas. [5]
Grapetown is an unincorporated farming and ranching community 9.5 miles (15.3 km) south of Fredericksburg, situated on South Grape Creek in Gillespie County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on the old Pinta Trail. [3] Grapetown is noted for being the site of the first annual Gillespie County Bundes Schützenfest.
