Behind the convent stands the school building, which faces Gordon Avenue. It is a two-story red-brick building. [3] The first church building built for St Michael's parish was completed in 1868. It was designed by Ambrose Murphy's uncle, James Murphy (architect). After completion of the new church, it became the Parish Hall.

St. Michael's Church Historic District is a historic district in Convent, Louisiana, in St. James Parish, Louisiana. The area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. [1] It is located on River Road (Louisiana Highway 44), about 7 miles (11 km) downriver from Sunshine Bridge.

[3] According to the 13th-century chronicler Matthew Paris, in AD 948 Abbot Wulsin (or Ulsinus) of St Alban's Abbey founded a church on each of the three main roads into the town of St Albans, namely St Michael's, St Peter's and St Stephen's, [4] to serve pilgrims coming to venerate the Abbey's shrine of Saint Alban.

St Michael's and La Sagrada Familia church alternate every year to begin or end at one of the two churches. Before the founding of St. Michael's parish in 1870, Catholics in the area had to travel to mass at either St. John the Evangelist at 21st St. or St. Patrick's in Fort Hamilton. The first pastor was Rev. Michael J. Hickey. [2] The current church was built 1905, and was designed by noted church architect Raymond F. Almirall. [1]
