The challenge pitted the all-new Dodge Viper against an F-16 jet in a side-by-side, standing-start, half-mile drag race on parallel air base runways, accelerating to the speed at which the jet became airborne: approximately 150 mph. The Dodge Viper covered the course in around 15 seconds.

It is both interesting and instructive to listen to that F-16 audio - especially the tones of voice and information relayed - and then compare it to the audio of an Air Force Wild Weasel mission that MIDNJAC posted here some months ago. The Wild Weasel audio includes a MiG engagement, heavy AAA and SAM launches, and a shoot-down and SAR.

Here's a couple reports about the midair collision that occured on November 16, 2000 between the F-16 and Cessna near Bradenton, FL. The first one is the Air Force's version and the second is the NTSB's preliminary report. LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (ACCNS) -- Air Combat Command determined...
"Tower, paddles, radio check" "Loud and clear. Loud and clear on the backup." "Winds 25 over 15, right down the angle."
1) Why would the F-16 carry drop tanks for the test? 2) Is the compromise of the F-35 design around a lift fan in the fuselage a major problem? (I understand the only the USMC version has the actual fan.) 3) Any thoughts on the F-15 Silent Eagle that Boeing has been trying to sell? Seems like an intriguing concept.
