Personally CK2 is still better than CK3. The world feels more alive and there are actual mechanics in CK2. CK3 is focusing hard on the roleplay aspect but ironically CK2 still feels more like a roleplay game than CK3.
CK2 is better but CK3 is now good enough to be enjoyable and has the potential to be a much better game in the long run. Many CK2 DLC features are available to CK3 as base game features. (such as reforms, islam, char customizer, etc) Plus CK3 has culture customization - something I wanted for CK2 for a very long time.
CK3 is objectively better but there's a huge nostalgia factor in favour of CK2. Better in terms of flavour and content variety. Ck3 is better as in it feels like it has more mechanics and stuff, like managing succession or the culture system.
I am new to CK and I actually think CK2 is a better strategy game. For you pros out there can you tell me if I'm right? In short it seems CK3 gives you too much control (albeit I prefer the CK2 ui), too much predictability and information, claims are handed out so easily undermining much of the marriage game.
CK2 vs. CK3 - A Personal Comparison: My experience with Crusader Kings II (CK2) was markedly different. CK2 felt more open-ended, with numerous random events and significant variations in main character development that kept each playthrough fresh and unique.
Overall CK2 is definitely still the better game and is still a viable option to play but CK3 has improved and and with the landless and imperial DLCs coming it could improve a lot more. Click to expand...
Overall CK3 is a more immersive experience and you will get to feel more attached to your characters / dynasty ; CK2 sometimes struggled to maintain the suspension of disbelief with me and quite often the stats and mechanics would poke their head a bit too much when trying to role play.
CK2 vs CK3, which one is actually the better? The answer is not that simple. It all depends on your preferences. Two games have naturally bunch of similarities. However, it’s been almost 10 years between the release dates of two games. Obviously there’s going to be a lot of differences.
CK3 is easier to learn and play, is much better looking, and has a couple of nice new features. Try CK3 on Game Pass for PC if you can, but if you decide to get the DLC for CK2, do the $5 subscription on Steam (includes every DLC) that you can cancel any time.
CK3 is a newer game with improved graphics and mechanics, and it's generally considered to be more user-friendly than its predecessor. If ye've played games like Stellaris before, ye might find the mechanics of CK2 or CK3 to be somewhat similar, but there's still a lot to learn and explore.
