Many major highways run through or are close to Plymouth, making it readily accessible to all within the metropolitan area. Interstate 494 runs through Plymouth as does Hwy. 55. Hwy. 169 is on the city’s eastern border and I-394 is within four miles from the center of Plymouth.
Plymouth's beginning as a town occurred in 1855 on the northwest shores of what is now known as Parkers Lake. A gristmill and other structures were built in the area. In the spring of 1857, when Parkers Lake flooded, the mill was taken down and moved to Freeport, Minnesota.

Online Permits. Online permitting is now available for certain residential permits only. All other permit applications and/or plans can be emailed to inspections@plymouthmn.gov for processing. In addition, online payment is also available for all permits.
The City of Plymouth contracts with Republic Services to provide every-other-week curbside recycling service to single family through eight-plex residential homes. Find your recycling day and week. Recycling fees are included on the city utility bill.
The City of Plymouth bills residential customers for utilities every other month. Commercial accounts are billed monthly. Utility bills include charges for sewer, water, recycling, surface water and street lighting.
Absentee ballot hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Plymouth City Hall, 3400 Plymouth Blvd. Additional extended hours are noted below. To vote early in person, voters must fill out an application when arriving at City Hall.
