The Bucharest Botanical Garden (Romanian: Grădina Botanică din București), now named after its founder, Dimitrie Brândză, is located in the Cotroceni neighbourhood of Bucharest, Romania. It has a surface of 18.2 hectares (45.0 acres), [1] including 4,000 square metres (1 acre) of greenhouses, and has more than 10,000 species of plants.
The Botanical Park has an area of about 84,000 m 2, of which 74,500 covered by lawn and trees and 7,500 by alleys. The Rondul Român ("Romanian Round") or Rotonda Scriitorilor ("Writers' Rotunda") is a circular alley which has stone busts of twelve important Romanian writers: Mihai Eminescu, Alexandru Odobescu, Titu Maiorescu, Ion Luca Caragiale, George Coșbuc, Ștefan Octavian Iosif, Ion Creangă, Alexandru Vlahuță, Duiliu Zamfirescu, Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu, Nicolae Bălcescu and Vasile Alecsandri.
The park has a surface area of 2.4 hectares (5.9 acres) and attracts an average of 1,100 visitors on a weekend day. [1] The Bulandra Theatre (the Toma Caragiu stage, Sala Toma Caragiu ), Ioanid Park [ ro ] (now called " Ion Voicu "), the Icoanei Church , and the Anglican Church are located in the park's immediate vicinity.
The last reorganization of the park dates from 2012, when, on an area of over 11,000 m 2, the municipality planted 9,024 roses, 428 trees and shrubs and also rebuilt 12 pergolas, 77 benches and 12 Roman vases. [5] [7]
In November 2020, after the local press reported on the mismanagement of the zoo and the ill-treatment of animals, the mayor's office decided to close it and relocate all the animals to the zoos in the country and abroad until the zoo is modernized. [2] Their relocation actually began in April 2021. [3]
Bordei Park (Romanian: Parcul Bordei) is a small park in Sector 1 of Bucharest, in the northern part of the city.The area has a difficult history, with the status and ownership of the park having changed several times throughout the years.
