It was the fifth highest grossing Indian film of 1947. [1] Santoshi went on make the classic, Barsaat Ki Raat (1960) starring Madhubala and Bharat Bhushan.

The film was released on 8 October 1948, at the Novelty Theatre, Bombay. The film was reviewed by Baburao Patel ,a Bharatiya Jan Sangh leader and film critic in his December 1948 issue of the cine-magazine Filmindia who claimed it to be a "total washout" calling it an "idiotic and boring picture".
