The town is situated in the foothills of the Southern Carpathians, at an altitude of 460 m (1,510 ft), on the south side of the Căpățâna Mountains [].It lies on the banks of the rivers Luncavăț; Pârâul Urșanilor and its left tributary, Râmești; and Bistricioara and its right tributary, Horezu.
