One Washington Park was originally built by the Bell Telephone Company's New Jersey Bell (later Verizon) to serve as the local network operations center in 1983. [2] Marc E. Demarest Hall was built during 1950 and 1951, and was named after Reverend William Henry Steele Demarest, President of Rutgers from 1905 to 1924.
