Longhua (simplified Chinese: 龙华区; traditional Chinese: 龍華區; pinyin: Lónghuá Qū) is a district in Haikou City, Hainan. The district's total area is 302.49 km 2 (117 sq mi), and its population was 593,018 people in 2010. The district has 11 sub divisions - 5 towns and 6 sub-districts. [1]
As Qiongzhou, formerly romanized as Kiungchow, [a] the district was formerly a separate city which served as the center of Chinese administration on Hainan Island when it formed a part of Guangdong Province. [1] The British Consulate in Kiungchow was opened in April 1876, as a result of the Treaty of Tientsin in 1858. [2]

It carries Haidian East 5th Road from Haidian Island into Xinbu Island, where it serves as a main east–west road, ending at the eastern edge of the island at Haikou New East Bridge. [4] The Haikou New East Bridge crosses the Nandu River. It connects the eastern side of Xinbu Island at the end of Haidian East 5th Road to the rest of the province.
